ACTIVITIES OF WELFARE DEPARTMENT
EMPLOYEES WELFARE CANTEENS:
There are 5 canteens in the Institute premises i.e. Main Cafe,
Faculty Canteen, L.T. Canteen, O.T. Canteen and providing Tea/Snacks
services in various departments of the Institute; One more Canteen for
faculty started in New O.P.D.
COMMUNITY CENTER, SECTOR 12, PGI, CHANDIGARH
Welfare Department allots community center, sector 12, PGI, Chandigarh
to employees for social functions.
EMPLOYEES WELFARE FUND SCHEME
Welfare Dept. runs Employees Welfare Fund Scheme aimed at providing
financial assistance to the families of deceased employees, interest free
loan for daughter's and self marriage and retirement benefits etc. There
are 650 members of the scheme.
VOCATIONAL TRAINING/EDUCATION CENTERS (REGULAR ACTIVITY)
DIPLOMA IN TAILORING AND FASHION DESIGNING
The Department runs a one year diploma course in Tailoring &
Fashion Designing in the PGI Campus in collaboration with Chandigarh Women
Development Corporation. 30 women are enrolled every year.
DIPLOMA IN TYPING AND STENOGRAPHY
A one year Diploma Course in Typing & Stenography is conducted in
the PGI Campus in collaboration with Chandigarh Women Development
Corporation. 30 women are admitted every year.
GOVT. MODEL SCHOOL /PRIMARY SCHOOL, SECTOR 12, PGI CAMPUS
Coordination / liaison with Govt. Model Middle School and Govt. Primary
School; PGI Engineering Department for maintenance work etc.
Maintaining record and maintenance of furniture provide in the
school.
INCOME GENERATING PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN
A welfare society of family members of PGI, employees has been formed
who are given stitching work of hospital clothing like patients kurta
pajayma/Doctors gowns masks etc. So that they can generate additional
income for their families.
Female family members of PGI employees were trained in Book Binding in
PGI Library. They are given binding jobs of library books/journals on
regular basis so that they can generate additional income and support
their families.
LOAN SCHEME
The department administers interest free wheat loan scheme every year.
Approx. 2500 employees are benefited take advantage by this scheme.
OTHER ACTIVITIES OF WELFARE DEPARTMENT

Assistance in organizing Sports and Cultural activities.

Assisting the Management in organizing various official function/visits
of Parliamentary Committees etc.

Organizing farewell parties and other function.

Helping employees and their families in case of death/accidents in the
family.

Processing of Claim form in case of employees death & compassionate
appointment etc.

Taking up the problems of PGI residential complex/cable TV facility
etc.

General problem / Grievances of employees.

Organizing welfare programmes for employees and their family
members from time to time. The programmes conducted are as follows :
Yoga Camps, free typing course, tie and dye, candle making. Summer camps
for children, food processing.
