Asthma is a common condition of the airways affecting all age groups. Asthmatic persons have airways that are more sensitive to airborne exposures than other healthy people. Exposure to such triggers causes abnormal narrowing of the airways in these people. In spite of the extensive knowledge that we have accumulated over the years, the disease still continues to generate anxiety and panic in the common man.

First Public Lecture on Itching Disorders

PGIMER is going to begin Golden Jubilee Public Lecture Series in the New OPD Block to create awareness amongst patients, attendants and general public about common health issues like dental care, respiratory allergies and asthma, itching disorders, hepatitis-jaundice, common urinary problems, diarrhoea and dysenteries, brain attacks-strokes, voice and hearing problems and bone and joint related problems.

The first public lecture will be on Itching Disorders by Dr Tarun Narang, Department of Dermatology, PGIMER on 5th April, 2013 at 12.30pm on 3rd floor, C Block of New OPD, PGIMER.

Often the dermatologists are able to diagnose the cause of itching with a careful history and physical examination; however, to determine a specific cause of the itch, a panel of blood tests, skin scraping, or biopsy may be needed to help make the diagnosis. If the itch is due to a skin disease or skin infection, treatment of the causative condition itself, in combination with topical medications and oral antihistamines usually relieves the symptoms. If the itch is secondary to an internal disease, patients may require treatment of the disease with oral medications.
