LIVE WORKSHOP AND CME IN GYNAE ONCOLOGY
held on 18th & 19th
August, 2012
As a part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of PGIMER, Chandigarh, the
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, PGIMER, Chandigarh held a Live
workshop and CME in Gynae Oncology on 18th & 19th
August, 2012. The First day of the conference was devoted to a live
workshop on surgeries of cancer of uterus, cervix and ovary by
experienced surgeons from North and South India along with faculty
members of the department. All the surgeries were successfully
conducted. Delegates from all over India attended the scientific program
and there was active interaction between the operating team and the
delegates.
Association of Gynaecologic Oncologists of India (AGOI) is a national
association with Dr. Kasturi Lal as Chairperson and Dr. K. Uma Devi as
present President. They inaugurated the Tri-state chapter of AGOI on the
eve of first day of conference with eminent gynaecologists from northern
India as its executive members. Dr. Kasturi Lal encouraged young
scientists to come forward and make themselves well versed with the
gynae oncology surgery. Dr. K. Uma Devi appreciated the efforts of
faculty members for initiating the Tri-state Chapter. Her future vision
for the institute is to have international collaboration in the field of
gynae oncology and to start fellowship courses for training of surgeons.
CME was conducted on day two (19th August, 2012) of the
conference which included discussion on cancers of the genital tract by
experienced speakers from Amritsar, Shimla, Patiala, Bangalore, Delhi
and Chandigarh. Dr. K. Uma Devi stressed upon role of lymphadenectomy in
endometrial cancer. Dr. Veena Jain deliberated upon the
need of conservative surgical techniques in early stage vulvar cancer to
avoid disfigurement as younger women are affected now-a-days. Dr. Rakesh
Kapoor discussed in detail the modern day techniques of radiation
therapy in cancer of cervix, which are followed all over the world.
There was informative panel discussion amongst gynaecologist,
radiologist, patholgist and radiation oncologist on management of
ovarian cancers in pre and post menopausal women, supported by evidence
from literature. The Punjab Medical council accredited 6 CME hours for
the scientific program.
