The
Department of Pharmacology was started in the year 1964 under the
illustrious headship of Professor Ranjit Roy Chaudhury. The department is
recognized for pioneering the first D.M Clinical Pharmacology course in the
year 1979 in collaboration with World Health Organization and can be duly
credited for starting first D.M., Clinical Pharmacology course in the
world. Besides D.M, Clinical Pharmacology, the department also has M.D,
M.Sc and PhD Pharmacology courses.
At
present the department has five faculty members under whom eighteen students
are pursuing various degrees.

regular contributions of the department in the years since its inception
are :

Conduct of National Workshop of Clinical Pharmacology
for the last 25 years. The registration for the 26th Workshop
to be held in February 2008 is ongoing. The registration details and

Publishing of Drugs Bulletin quarterly for the last 30
years. The articles are aimed at general practitioners. The bulletin has
been regularly covering review articles about various drugs and management
of therapeutic conditions. Prof Pandhi is the Chief Editor of the Bulletin
It is presently affiliated to International Society of Drugs Bulletin.

Conducting National Good Clinical Practice Workshop for
the last 3 years. Started by Dr S. Malhotra, with the view of training the
faculty for conducting clinical research in accordance of Good Clinical
Practice Guidelines, the scope of the workshop has been extended to
residents and young researchers.

Operating the Drug Information Center for the last 5
years. Any pertinent information regarding drugs, therapeutics may be
obtained telephonically by contacting2755245.An effort to provide evidence
based reply to the query is made. The proposal for making the facility
available at our website has been submitted to the website incharge.

Besides
the above, the department holds a track record of conducting basic and
clinical research in various specialized areas and has been consistent in
publishing the research findings in reputed indexed journals. In its efforts
to promote evidence based medicine, the department has produced systematic
reviews on various topics in the last few years.
