Department Introduction

Department of Endocrinology at Post Graduate Institute Medical Education and Research Chandigarh was established by Late Prof. G.K. Rastogi in April 1967. Department has a credit to start first DM course in 1970 in any specialization in the country. Prof. R.J. Dash was first student who did DM in Endocrinology. The Immuno Radio assay lab. was established in 1968 and was accredited lab with WHO for various hormonal estimations. After Prof. G.K. Rastogi migrated to USA in 1978, Prof RJ Dash became Head of Department and remained till 2003. From 2004 onwards Prof. Anil Bhansali is Heading the Department. Presently department has 5 faculty members including Dr. Anil Bhansali, Dr. Sanjay K Bhadada, Dr. Pinaki Dutta, Dr Rama Walia, and Dr. Naresh Sachdeva. So far 80 students have passed DM from the institute working allover the country and across the globe. Department  provides outdoor and indoor services for various medical and endocrine disorders, has 20 indoor beds (Male Medical Ward located at 5th floor c block , Female Medical Ward at 3rd floor C-block )  and  has 3 OPD clinics ,Tuesday: Medical OPD (New OPD block 3rd floor block), on Wednesday Endocrine and Thyroid clinic and Thursday Diabetes clinic(4th floor B block )  and planning to start special clinics for diabetes in young , metabolic bone disorders clinic and inter-sex clinic. Dr. Naresh Sachdeva is in charge of endocrine laboratory; and it is situated in research block B 3rd floor room no. 3029.  Presently department has 2 ministerial staff (Mrs. Usha Sharma, Mrs. Rama Puri) and 8 DM resident students (Dr. Jaipraksh, Dr. Anantraman, Dr Vimal Upreti, Dr. Sambit Das, Dr. R. Santosh, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Ravi Kiran and Dr. Sunder) and one PhD student (Shweta Varshney) and 2 research fellow for ICMR project and drug trials (Miss Aditi Arora, Miss Shikha Jain).
